T the Seychelles THE SEYCHELLES ARE AS REMOTE AS IT GETS. DESROCHES & ALPHONSE Located in the Indian Ocean, the 115-island country is almost a thousand miles east of mainland Africa and six hundred miles north of Madagascar. Coming in from the states requires a trip across the Atlantic followed by a ten-hour fight to the capital city of Victoria on Mahé Island and then a 50-minute charter to the islands of Desroches or Alphonse. But much like Russia's Ponoi River the isolation of the Seychelles makes for premium fshing with abundant bonefsh, milkfsh, trevally and permit, and bluewater species such as sailfsh yellowfn tuna and wahoo. Caption tk The islands of the Seychelles offer a diverse mixture of ecology, topography and landscape, varying from mountainous granite outcroppings to low-lying atolls. The islands also cater to anglers of every stripe, from those looking for a hardcore fshing experience to those interested in a more laid back, luxurious getaway with some phenomenal fshing thrown in here and there. Alphonse Island is for determined anglers, the sort who want to catch 100 bonefsh in a week. It might also be the best place on the planet to learn to bonefsh, its target rich environment giving even inexperienced anglers around ffty shots per day. But bonefsh are just the beginning. The waters here are abundant with triggerfsh, 1. trevally and a host of other 2. fy-taking species. For those looking for a new challenge, the algae-eating milkfsh is the second most prolifc species on the fats. Since milkfsh won't go for a fy, catching them has long been a puzzle to the anglers in the Seychelles who refer to the fsh as pati pati. But some of the 1. Alphonse Island Resort 2. The Seychelles consist of 115 individual islands island's guides have claimed to solve this riddle and are increasingly successful in reeling them in. The Alphonse Island Resort offers anglers ten beachfront chalets dotted along the eastern side of the island. Don't let the thatched roofs fool you; each chalet is air conditioned with Jacuzzi bath and outdoor shower. Bikes and golf carts are the preferred mode of transportation. The resort also includes a bar, restaurant and swimming pool, which is nearly always still as guests don't come to Alphonse to swim, they come to catch fsh, and lots of them. For the angler searching for more variety in a fshing getaway the fve-star Desroches Island Resort offers a wide range of services and activities. Voted one of the top ten remote hotels in the world, the resort could be described as Robinson Crusoe meets luxurious sophistication. Even though the resort's one-, three- and four-bedroom suites are opulent, well-appointed accommodations, the discriminating guest will want to reserve the resort's Dibwa Residence, an eight thousand square-foot, fvebedroom retreat just steps from the ocean. The two master bedrooms feature plunge pools and a large infnity pool stretches through the center of the complex. A personal chef steams fresh fsh in Miele kitchen while the residence's butler handles spa appointments, fshing schedules and arranges snorkeling, scuba and kayaking activities.
