TEMPUS JETS FROM THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER A Musical Comfort PHOTOGRAPH COURTESY OF TEMPUS JETS AS THIS PUBLICATION EVOLVES, I am certain we will create a platform that continues to deliver uncommon themes and a constant message. We will always strive to tell the best stories and to introduce the most exciting personalities, and the art of giving back will remain a topic of conversation within these pages. Those of us who are fortunate enough to have traveled this great world in all its beauty, complexity and vastness have most likely also witnessed its harsh realities and ugliness in the form of extreme poverty, sickness and hunger. No group suffers more in times and places of distress than children. Unfortunately, one doesn't need to leave the United States to fnd parents who endure long days and sleepless nights while their infant or child battles a medical situation that, due to lack of resources or critical care, may result in lifelong complications or death. In this issue, we shine a spotlight on the internationally acclaimed musical group Rascal Flatts. I have known these guys for several years, and they are tremendous citizens—not to mention fabulous artists and infnitely creative souls. But most impressive is their commitment to give back to the community where they live and work, in the form of the Rascal Flatts Tempus Jets CEO Scott Terry with Joe Don Rooney of Rascal Flatts, who lends his support to worthy causes close to home. Surgery Center at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Charity concerts, fundraisers, private appearances and an untold number of other acts of generosity by Rascal Flatts have raised millions of dollars for the Children's Hospital. It is a passion and commitment that is more than window dressing and public relations—it's real. I know because I have spent countless hours with these talented musicians and their tireless management team, discussing how to raise more money for the operation of the Children's Hospital, to help those in need and also so that there will be fewer parents who have to face the toughest challenge in life—a sick or dying child. Joe Don Rooney, lead guitarist for Flatts, and a gentleman I am proud to call a friend, is forever asking me if he can come along on my next trip to Africa. Perhaps my passion is rooted in a culture and people that are an ocean away because I fnd it diffcult to witness so much suffering so close to home. I need the separation. Not the Flatts, and not Joe Don. They put their hearts, their time and their money right in the middle of a town where they can't escape the constant pressure to give and do more. With the success of the Children's Hospital, they have achieved what I only wish I had the courage and ability to do. The world needs all of the giving back that it can get from the likes of the Flatts and me. I am quite certain that thousands of families in Tennessee and the surrounding area are thankful today for Joe Don and the band's work in Nashville, which is sure to continue even when Joe Don fnally does jump on an airplane with me to East Africa. SCOTT TERRY They put their hearts, their time, and their money right in the middle of a town where they can't escape the constant pressure to give and do more. CEO, Tempus Jets, Inc. Summer 2013 .
