Villa San Michele was built by the Swedish
physician and author, Axel Munthe, toward the
end of the 19th century.

The gardens of the villa are home
to a variety of Mediterranean plants and a
medieval chapel.

San Michele houses an impressive collection of
classical Roman, Etruscan, and Egyptian artifacts,
including a marble bust of Emperor Tiberius.

San Michele boasts an incredibly
panoramic position on the north-eastern
slopes of Anacapri.
One visitor, a poetic Swedish doctor,
Axel Munthe, became so enamored of the island that he built
the magnifcent Villa San Michele on the crest of a hill
with stunning views of the Mediterranean.
