Sörenstam's last. It had made champions of Cristie Kerr and Karrie Webb and put Se Ri Pak into the LPGA hall of fame. "When you start looking at the list of champions, it's pretty impressive," says Nooe, "This tournament brings out the best in the players." The event will return to its normal spring schedule in 2013. Thinking I might have some time to shore up my game before taking on Keurajian I ask Nooe about Kingsmill's golf academy. I had stopped by the facility earlier and found the lights off and the door locked. "We are actually hosting a teaching summit in our ballroom right now," says Nooe. "We've got about ffty golf professionals here from the midAtlantic PGA section doing indoor and outdoor instruction." I tell Nooe my timing is perfect as it could well take ffty instructors to get my game straightened out. Apparently I'm not the only one looking for a quick fx. Nooe can remember a time when players would drop everything to attend a week-long golf school. "Those days are gone," says Nooe. "We've gone to shorter, more specialized programs—one-, two-, even half-day sessions." The Academy is unique in that it utilizes Kingsmill's three courses for instruction, taking students out to different holes to recreate just about any situation players might fnd themselves in, from uphill and downhill lies, rough and bunker play, course management, and putting. Nooe tells me many players will start swinging poorly because they're setting up poorly. "The ball is not going where they want it to go, so they make adjustments, they're setting up bad, making a bad swing and adjusting. The Kvest can help them fnd that right spot again." Nooe's comments make me think of my swing and of the myriad of adjustments I'm probably making just to keep the ball in play. I think of the tight par three seventeenth that runs along the James River and try to remember how many golf balls are in my bag. Was I en route to embarrassment? 36 Tempus-Magazine.com . Spring 2013 The answer would have to wait. Just after lunch a storm rolls in from the southwest, and the temperature drops. Keurajian and I agree to reschedule our match for the spring and with my clubs having never left the trunk of the car I depart Kingsmill for the drive home. All along the way, my thoughts keep coming back to Wayne Nooe's suggestion that
