Vignettes Great Escape limited-edition Triumph motorcycle is a throwback to the era of great adventure movies // By Heidi Coryell Williams T The mosT famous moTorcycle scene in the history of adventure movies may have left theaters ffty years ago, but a reproduction of the bike has been newly parked in the garages of Steve McQueen devotees and has become as sought after as it is sensational. Triumph Motorcycles introduced its Steve McQueen™ Edition bike in 2012, joining forces with the estate of the Hollywood icon and creating a special version of the company's throwback ride. Adorned in faux-military accessories and emblazoned with a reproduction of the late actor's signature on its side covers, the motorcycle is a tasteful retro-inspired ride that showcases the quality and performance of the Triumph brand. The motorcycle pays tribute to McQueen's love of Triumph's products and his devotion to all "things that go" everywhere, including cars and motorcycles. With only 1,100 of the Triumph Steve McQueen™ Edition bikes being produced and sold, however, the cycle is a rare fnd. McQueen made a name for himself in flm during the 1960s. In his landmark flm, The Great Escape (1963), he daringly fees a German prison camp on a motorcycle much like the reproduction released last year. He was a fan of Triumph brand motorcycles, and he spent much of his spare time riding in the Californian dunes aboard a modifed 1963 Triumph Bonneville. Enthusiasts of McQueen's riding skills won't get to write their own chase scenes, as he did in The Great Escape, but they can write their own adventure atop a motorcycle that befts a prison camp escape—even if it is just an escape from reality. 20 Tempus-Magazine.com .
