The common theme is that everything you fnd in these pages will be something that resonates with those of us who share a global view in our personal and professional lives. No matter if we are examining the revitalization of Rwanda as a regional economic power or we are celebrating the explosive success of a young PGA Tour golfer like Luke Guthrie, we want to provide insight into the personalities and trends that create stories we can relate to and, learn from. For all that Tempus hopes to be, it is not, nor will it ever be, a soapbox. We aren't here to stoke fery debates or dispense celebrity gossip. Our only motive is to initiate interest, foster awareness, and create anticipation and intrigue for topics that are of interest to us and, we believe, will be of interest to you. The Tempus mission is to illuminate the inner workings of people and organizations for the purposes of learning. Consider this issue's article on the charitable initiative Global Flight Relief. This effort, which Tempus Jets is supporting, uses aviation resources to address international crises in some of the world's hardest-to-access areas. Most surprising, perhaps, has been how grateful and awed I've been by those who contributed to this, the premiere issue of Tempus. Maybe that's why it seems necessary to thank those who played a part in making this vision a reality. Jack Bacot, our editor in chief, is a consummate professional with many notable publications to his credit, making him uniquely and expertly suited to manage this magazine and drive its creative force. And my very dear friend Ben Affeck proved a worthy cover subject indeed. All of Our only motive is to initiate interest, foster awareness, and create anticipation and intrigue for topics that are of interest to us all. us on the Tempus team were thrilled when Argo, which Ben directed and starred in, garnered seven Oscar nominations in January, including one for Best Picture. I witnessed the dedication and talent that went into the process of making this film, from conception to finished product, and it was incredible! But I've also been fortunate enough to see Ben's work in eastern Congo firsthand. His passion for the African people, and the work he's doing to rebuild and strengthen this war-torn region, make his excellence on-screen pale in comparison. The difference, of course, is that there's no trophy for the efforts he's undertaking with the Eastern Congo Initiative. But now there's Tempus to tell the story. sCOtt tErry CEO, Tempus Jets, Inc.
